Their little bodies can't always have the words. So when they're behaving some way, they're telling you something. Now it's your turn to figure out what that is. Couples work is emotionally focused and attachment-based: the fight is rarely about the dishes. Family work often includes a neurodivergent child, a blended household, a foster or adoptive placement, or a teenager whose behavior has become the family's whole weather system. I have been a foster parent, a child protection social worker and a school counselor. I have sat on every side of these conversations, and I do not take sides in the room.
