Questions

# Frequently Asked Questions

Plain answers to what people usually ask before they call. If yours is not here, ask it on the free 30-minute call.

Is the first call really free?

Yes. The first conversation is a free 30-minute call. It is there so you can hear how I work and I can hear what is going on, before either of us commits to anything.

Do you take insurance?

Ubuntu Counseling is private pay only. I do not bill insurance, and I provide superbills you can submit to your plan for out-of-network reimbursement. Whether a plan reimburses, and how much, is between you and your insurer.

In person or telehealth?

Both. In-person sessions are at 132 E Broadway Suite 303 in Eugene. Telehealth is available anywhere in Oregon. I am licensed in Oregon only, so I can work with you when you are located in Oregon.

Who do you see?

Children, teens, adults and seniors, plus couples and families. Some people come alone, some bring a partner, and some parents come without their child in the room.

What happens in a first session?

Mostly listening. I will ask what brought you in, what you have already tried, and what you would like to be different. Nothing gets pried open on a schedule that is not yours.

Can parents be part of the work?

Yes. I have been a behavioral interventionist, a child protection social worker, a school counselor and a foster parent. Parent and caregiver sessions are a normal part of children's and teens' work.

Are weekend appointments available?

Weekend appointments are available. Ask on the consultation call and I will tell you what I currently have open.

What if you are not the right fit?

I will say so on the free call and try to point you somewhere better. That is a normal, useful outcome of a consultation, not a failure.

## Longer Answers

[

### What to Expect in Your First Session

You are not expected to arrive with it organized. Most people describe a situation rather than a problem, and that is a perfectly good start.

[

### How to Choose a Therapist in Eugene

This page is meant to be useful even if you choose someone else. Finding the right person matters more than finding me.

[

### Therapy and Medication for ADHD

I am not a prescriber. I do not give medical advice, recommend medications or comment on what anyone should take. This page is about how the two kinds of help differ.

[

### Do You Take Insurance?

The short answer is no. I do not bill insurance and I do not accept the Oregon Health Plan. Here is exactly what that means for what you pay.

## Still Wondering?

The 30-minute call is free and there is no obligation attached to it.
