# Do You Take Insurance?

The short answer is no. I do not bill insurance and I do not accept the Oregon Health Plan. Here is exactly what that means for what you pay.

## Private Pay, and Why the Answer Is Short

I am a private-pay practice. I am not in network with commercial insurance plans, I do not submit claims on your behalf, and I do not accept the Oregon Health Plan or Medicaid-funded coverage. If OHP is what you have, I am not able to see you under it, and it is better that you know that now than after a phone call.

Current fees are $180 for an individual session and $250 for couples and family sessions. Consultation and letters are $180. A limited number of reduced-fee spots are available starting at $130.

The consultation call is free, and cost is a completely normal thing to raise on it. I would rather talk about money at the beginning than have it quietly become the reason someone stops coming.

## If You Have OHP

The Oregon Health Plan covers behavioral health, and there are providers in Lane County who take it. Since I am not one of them, the useful thing I can offer is direction rather than an apology.

Your coordinated care organization is the place to start. The member services number on your card can tell you which local practices and clinics are accepting new OHP clients, and they are obliged to help you find care. Community mental health agencies and federally qualified health centers in this area also serve OHP members, often with shorter waits than private practices.

If you are in crisis while you are looking, call or text 988. That is available regardless of coverage.

## What a Superbill Is

A superbill is an itemized receipt formatted the way an insurer expects. It lists the dates of service, the service codes, the fee you paid, my license and practice information, and a diagnostic code where one applies.

You pay me at the time of service, I give you the superbill, and you submit it to your insurance company yourself. If your plan includes out-of-network mental health benefits, they may reimburse you some portion of what you paid, sent directly to you.

It is not a guarantee of anything. Whether you get money back, and how much, is entirely between you and your plan. Some people are reimbursed a meaningful share; some plans have no out-of-network benefit at all and pay nothing.

## What to Ask Your Insurer

Call the member services number on your card and ask specifically: do I have out-of-network outpatient mental health benefits, what is my out-of-network deductible and how much of it have I met, what percentage do you reimburse after the deductible, and is there a limit on sessions per year.

Also ask whether they require prior authorization for out-of-network care, what their filing deadline is, and how to submit it, since many plans now take a photo upload through an app rather than a mailed form.

Write down the date, the representative's name and what they told you. It matters more often than it should.

## Cancellations, and the Other Practical Bits

24-hour cancellation policy. The full fee applies inside 24 hours. That is not about being strict for its own sake. A reserved hour cannot be given to anyone else at short notice. Life genuinely happens, and if something unavoidable comes up, tell me and we will talk about it.

Payment is due at the time of service. If you are using a reduced-fee spot, we will agree the rate before your first session rather than negotiating it afterward.

You are also entitled under federal law to a good faith estimate of expected costs for care when you are not using insurance, and I will provide one in writing.

The Short Version

- Private pay, no insurance billing
- The Oregon Health Plan is not accepted
- Individual sessions $180
- Couples and family $250
- Reduced-fee spots from $130
- Superbills provided on request
